Looking for FI Wiring Harness

Post by housecall55 » Wed Oct 09, 2019 11:23 am

I am converting an 82 Legend Turbo Spider back to non-turbo status, and looking for a stock FI (non-turbo) wiring harness. Thanks.

In case you don't find one elsewhere, Midwest Bayless has a used one for sale for $158 and change.

Is the turbo harness really different except in the engine bay? It might be easy to remove as I doubt Legend Industries did much more than modify a stock harness.

Hopefully Richard Ridge will jump in but if not you might contact him.

I have one, paid $50 (incl. shipping) and it's yours for the same.

The FI wiring harness is modified on the Legend Turbos by splicing in four pressure switches. The switches sit on the inner fender behind the carbon canister. Each has a connection the the manifold to measure boost pressure. Three of the four increase enrichment by sending false signals to the ECU as pressure rises. The fourth switch cuts the FI system off if the max boost pressure is exceeded. Each has a two wire connector attached to the bottom. When you plug the manifold pressure line you take them out of action.

Sometimes one or more are stuck in the on position. Disconnecting them from the harness is a good idea. They are ganged, two switches on each of two mounting brackets with a single cable and connector to each set.

If you don't want to be bothered replacing the FI harness you can simply terminate each of the switch pigtails at the harness. Or you can take Brad's offer and save the Legend harness. Most Legend Turbos are off the road and those still running are usually deturboed. Still there are always a few people looking to buy Legend parts in the hope of re-turboing their Spiders.

Below is a picture of the four pressure switches which should be inactivated. It comes from a technical brochure on Turbos in the library here: https://www.mirafiori.com/forum/viewtop ... 19#p508982

The other (related to the enrichment switches) difference is the turbo harness has only two wires connected to the Throttle Position Switch (TPS), whereas the regular FI harness has three wires connected to the TPS.
