Front hub seals!?

Post by Slipcased » Tue Aug 13, 2019 12:02 pm

I removed the front hubs off my 76 124 spider,I simply set them aside and gave them no farther attention as I had ordered a new hub kit for both fronts...

They came with new hubs inner and outer bearings and racers with new seals new spindle nuts and caps with new outer axle washers..my problem came clear to me when my wife noticed there was no seal stop.nothing to gage how deep to set them? But I had already drove them both to deep.....so I pulled out the 2 fiat books i have and low and behold there's a snap ring!?
Arggh that's the only part that was not in the kit.lol. I see no slot for the ring to fit into.im ordering new seals and probably a new alternator this morning,my question is how deep to go with the snap rings and or the seals?

It's not a snap ring but rather a spacer that sits next to the bearing cup.

Hmm,whats a bearing cup?
The spacer goes in until it hits the racer then install seal untill it hits the spacer or?
Sorry my ignorance runs deep.
Ty for the response, I knew you guys would have the answers!

Yes, it goes next to the bearing race. item #4, this is to keep you from driving the seal in to far. Oops too late> :D , the seal should sit flush to slightly below the hub.
