New 1969 Spider Project

Post by bartigue » Tue Apr 16, 2019 9:13 pm

Thanks to Andy and the crew in Houston I ended up with a nearly complete 1969 Spider. Pulled it back to Atlanta on Saturday, tempting fate by driving it home on the back of a 20 year old Land Rover. Never in the history of the world has such a combination of Lucas, Marelli, and Carello been put to such strenuous use (yep, the Land Rover has Carello parts too)...

Complete, needs restoration. No comments on the pimp interior (it has already been scheduled for removal)...

Looks great & like a worthy way to stay off the streets & out of the bars.

And, no comment here about the interior.

Congrats!

Congrats Brad; - always had a soft spot for that flat-hood 1438. My first 124 was a '69 in Positano Giallo. It felt like a real
fire-breather after abandoning my anemic '71 850 spider (that was cute as a button though...).

Ain't it great that you can consider restoring a now-50-year-old Italian sports car, a worthwhile, reasonable prospect and highly do-able?

Pictures please, lots o' pictures!

Cheers!

I like the 1438, they have a different feel to them and a lightness, just imperceptible but different. The AS Spiders had a number of nuances that would slowly disappear over the years, like the dual under-hood lamps, the chrome gauges, the single reverse lamp and molded chrome bumper around it. Worth restoring, there aren't many of the first series left and it's as close as I'll likely get to owning a 66!

Wow. Congratulations! This will be fun for us to watch. You always make great choices in your repair/resto efforts. No 17” rims for you ;).

It did. I had never seen one in person, and Andy had two, including a beautifully restored one on his car. It's a really nice fitting top and is the only one I've seen look correct. I'm not sure when I'd put it on the car though!

If you decide to send it to a friend who loves a little north of you, just let me know! ;)
