New wheels for the 82

Post by ShawnA » Tue Dec 18, 2018 11:22 am

New wheels for the 82, thanks for all the input on tire sizes. These are 13x6 Stilauto wheels with 13mm offset, and 205/60r13 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. I think it needs to be lowered a bit, but I hate to mess with it since it rides and drives so good as it sits.

They are very attractive wheels on an very nice ride, lovely photos and mood created ……. but stance is everything … drop all four corners of the car, start small, but it needs a noticeable decrease in the gap between the wheel arch and the top of the tire … for an remarkable improvement

Thank you, I agree! I love the offset on these wheels; the correct stance would make it perfect. I definitely do not want it too low but feel it needs dropped.

The Spider rear spring rates are very soft. That's the secret of the nice ride. If you are currently using gas pressure shocks, just switching to straight hydraulic shocks (similar to OEM) will drop the rear end half an inch without affecting ride quality.

Half of all new cars on the road now are SUV's and pickups, so big wheel openings are very much in style these days. They don't have to know that crossing anything higher than a speed bump will damage your oil sump.

And yes, those are very nice wheels.

Could go the other way. Install a hard top, a bunch of driving lights, some big fat mudflaps and skinny studded snow tires for that 1970s Euro rally look and you won't have to worry about smashing your sump on a speedbump. I have often thought of building a spider like that (without the skinny studded snow tires) just so I could drive it on our terrible roads without worrying about breaking things.

Hmm, I do have a Pininfarina hard top...now, where to find vintage lighting and mud flaps. :)
