First race of the season here at Waterford Hills raceway here in Michigan. Waterfordhills celebrated its 60th years in 2018 and capped that year off by repaving the whole track. WOW WOW!! is all i can say about racing on a newly repaved track. So smooth and massive amounts of grip, even for me with old tires.

The car ran great all weekend long (except for loosing third gear, 4 laps in on the first race) Ugh, It would not stay in gear unless i held it in. There is no way in hell that you can drive this track with one hand on the wheel. I am truly amazed and very glad that this 2l TC engine can pull full throttle from 3500-8000. I completed the first race in 4th gear only and ran both races on Sunday also using only 4th gear.

Sometimes the Fiat gods shine on you: Newly paved track, cool temps, (swapped back in the 4:30 rear end from the 4:10 over the winter) and a engine that truly has a wide torque band. As you see in the photo, my main competitor was #22 a 60's Chevy Corvair. I finished 2nd, 2nd and 1st with me overtaking him with 2 laps to go on Sunday's afternoon race. You really learn how to conserve momentum, late braking when you only have one usable gear. it was a great weekend and that Corvair made me work very hard for that win. Ok, who's got a 4:44 or 5:12 ratio gear? This no shift racing has some advantages????

Feeling it man ….. happy for you ...a long time ago someone still in the game, told me the fastest way around Limerock (home track) in a race prepped 124 Spider was in 4th gear all the way …. momentum, momentum, momentum.... little and late braking. M Shumaker once drove the race of his career only using 5th …. well done .. Man

--Hey, well done Ted, and great report! Too bad you had that pesky gearbox problem. A win is a win....period. I've seen that 22 car before....good job! You've just got too much power down now with that 2L ! :)

--Are the diff's you're running limited slip? That sure helps on the twisty tracks.

Jim, yes I am running the atb diff (Torsen type). I have been running this diff for the last three years, best investment ever! One interesting thing to note, with only running 4th gear I only ran 1.8secs slower than my fastest lap from last year. The new track does have better grip, as there was 6 track records set this past weekend and looking at my GPS data, the slowest corner was 40mph, top speed 94mph.
