Upper and lower ball joints

On my 76 fiat 124 how tight do I go with the upper and lower ball joint nuts?

Good question. If you mean three small bolts that hold each balljoint to the arm, the factory service manual and the abbreviated manuals based on it are silent because Fiat never sold ball joints. They sold replacement control arms with ball joints already riveted in place. I often default to a generic torque table based on size and grade like the one you will find here. If you mean the very large nut that secures the ball joint to the hub, I think it's 67 ft-lbs...it's listed in the shop manual.

Ty both,I looked in my 2 Manuals neither 1 breathed a word about them.lol.
I'm almost driving it! Tighten them joints down and try starting it tomorrow! Cant wait.

Perhaps I'm too late to the party here and you've already resolved this, but my Haynes manual lists 15 ft lbs for the three nuts that secure the ball joint to the A-arms. That always seemed too low to me, and since the Haynes manual also lists some torque values that don't agree with the shop manual, I just tighten to 20 or 25 or so.

Carl noted this above, for the nylon nut at the end of the ball joint where it connects to the steering knuckle, mid 60s ft lbs is what I recall from the shop manual.

--Upper and lower ball joint to steering knuckle = 72 ft./lbs. This is a self-locking nut.
Spider Service Manual, 1982; Section 44 (Suspension) page 44-3.
Clymer Fiat 124 Series 1967-1982 Shop Manual agrees with 72 ft./lbs. page 167.

--I think the Haynes Manual (1968-78) incorrectly lists the torque at 15 ft./lbs. (Chap. 11, Suspension & Steering, page 166).

--Personal opinion: about 60 ft./lbs. would be just fine. It's a self locking nut, and you just don't want any play.
