Caliper interference with steering problem

Post by fiatfam » Fri Sep 06, 2019 2:24 pm

I installed the front suspension on my 1979 spider and I can not get the brake caliper on. It is making contact with the steering arm attached to the spindle. I checked the parts book and the part numbers match up, but the arm lines up with the middle of the caliper. The parts are original ti the car. What am I doing wrong, I checked the other car and the arm is lower.
Thanks

Did you take the steering arms off the spindle when you were doing your suspension work? If so, you might have swapped the left and right.

See the diagram in this file, and remember the diagram assumes you are looking from the front of the car.

Or maybe you swapped control arms left and right? Do you have the front sway bar on yet? If not, does it fit?

I figured it out, I had the backer plates switched. Now everything works well.
Thanks
