Putting the engine on a stand

Post by jfarr » Thu Sep 05, 2019 9:32 am

I picked up a spare 1800 I plan to rebuild in my basement this winter. A friend lent me an engine stand but he didn't have bolts for it, so I picked up a metric engine stand bolt kit from Summit Racing. When I tried to mount the plate to the back of the engine, I found that the bolts won't fit into the upper threaded holes on the back of the engine block. The bolts are M10 so I figure I probably need M12. Can anyone confirm?

Take off the exhaust motor mount and use that.

All four engine to trans mounting points on the engine should be the same size and thread.

One of the better things I learned from Guy Croft is the way he mounted FIAT TC engines to a stand. Go get a cheap Harbor engine stand, throw away the arms, and drill a hole or two to the plate mount, and bolt the block to the exhaust side of the block via the engine mount bosses. This allows you to mount the flywheel and clutch assembly and rotate the engine 360 degrees to work on any angle of the engine - top or bottom.
