Argenta Turbo engine bearings?

Post by ward00 » Wed Jun 05, 2019 4:49 pm

Hi all, I bought a block from a seller on this board that represented that the engine had Argenta turbo engine bearings. First of all, what is special about these bearings? I read somewhere that they are ceramic? Second, how can one visually verify if the bearings are Argenta? I am trying to verify if I got what I paid for.

Argenta is 132 in Fiat speak. All Spiders from 1974 on used a 132 engine. No Argenta was turbocharged. Some Argenta engines were supercharged, Volumex in Fiat speak. None were imported to the U.S. If you can get an engine block serial number or head casting number you may be able to learn more from a European or Australian website.

Ok, so were the bearings any better than a non supercharged engine. Can one visually tell the difference?

Based on a quick search of parts the bearings are the same for the Argenta Volumex as they were for any common 132 series engine.

So no added value like a seller of this site led me to believe (as with a couple more critical items), primarily a block (that was scored and piited), that was sold with forged pistons (compression ratio misrepresented) and new (supposed Total Seal rings), where use of new ring led me to believe that the block was at the very minimum honed (it was not and requires a rebore, making the pistons useless). If he ever shows his face on this forum trying to sell something again I'll be sure to chime in.

Where exactly did someone on this site post any of these items? There aren't any posts related to the Argenta unless you search back around 2012.

The extra info about the engine was given after I contacted the seller offline. Search for "Venollia" and you'll find how I initially found him. Not interested in doing anything proactively, but definitely will if he tries to sell something else.

I believe that tri-metal bearings wee used in 132 blocks as used in the volumex cars (i.e. supercharged 2 liter spiders, Argenta, Beta, etc)

A quick google search did not turn up vendors that supply these but they are still available for my integrale motors (might be the same since they are based on the same block but I never checked)

I am not sure you can tell by looking at them that they are tri-metal

sorry - not much help

Au contraire, helpful in that at least one part of the story I was given matches. Did the 3 metal bearings you use cost appreciably more?

A picture show that bearings as being a dark color - do your bearing have the same color? http://www.shop4race.com/en/cars/engine ... rance.html
