Re: Horn Kills Clock...... What...????

The clock is working. I can see the second hand freeze as soon as I hit the horn button. I pulled the fuse, it was good and so replaced it. Started tapping on the relay and compressor and the clock comes back. Very strange........ Since the relay "clicks" and the horn makes a bit of a squeak, I'm th...

Horn Kills Clock...... What...????

The horn has been slowly dying in my car. You hit the button, you hear a "click" and then slowly.... you hear the horn come alive. Usually well after the condition I was trying to bring attention to had passed. Lately the horn just clicks, and I only hear a faint squeak come out. This weekend I hit ...

Brake Pad Springs

Is there a downside to not using the brake pad anti-rattle springs? I had a mechanic replace a leaking rear brake hose while on a trip last year. Last night I was performing my annual “re-greasing of the slide blocks” when I noticed that there were no springs installed in that particular caliper. No...

Re: How long do shocks last?

I don't think mine are the adjustable type. If they are, they've never been adjusted! -SF

How long do shocks last?

Am doing spring maintenance on my brakes. Was thinking about the shocks since they are in my face. I replaced all 4 of the original shocks after 28 years of service. Joe of Joe's Fiat (Damn....do I miss having that guy around.) installed a new set of 4 yellow SPAX shocks for me. I remember his comme...

Re: valve shim pick

I've always used a can of "Dust Off". You know...... the can with the little straw for cleaning out your computers keyboard. That little straw gets in there no-problem and lifts the shim right off. I "catch" it with a magnet. Only down side is any oil under the shim can get aspirated into your face ...

Axle Shaft Removal

In the course of replacing my differential assembly, I need to pull the axle shafts out a few inches to remove / install the new unit. I have had zero issues with the rear wheel bearings or oil seals which have about 30K miles on them. After pulling the axle shafts clear, do I have to replace the oi...

Re: Looking for ideas to redo the interior

I had my upholstery re-done in tan. The door panels were in good shape but the shade of tan was different than the new seats / boot cover. The shop offered to dye (spray paint essentially) the door panels to match the new upholstery for an additional $70. I thought it was going to be a bad call, but...

Swap Out Just the 5th Gear?

Is it possible to source a new 5th gear (and matching Cluster) to achieve the lower RPM's on the highway? My transmission does not look too bad upon initial inspection, but since I have it apart, I'm wondering if I can swap out just 5th. Anyone ever go that route as opposed to the complete swap to t...

Who is driving a Polski-Fiat 5 speed in their 124?

So I’m curious to hear who is driving a 124 with a Polski-Fiat 5-speed and how much of a change do you notice in day to day driving? The bearing noise in my car while in neutral has finally pushed me over the edge. With the top up in particular, I find it maddening. sounds like there is a giant sewi...
