Brake Light On.....but why?

Just picked up the car from the mechanic. Had a new master cylinder and booster installed. After dinner I went for a spin on a remote road for some aggressive brake checks. Hammering the brakes at 45mph, the car stops but the wheels do not lock up. In the middle of stopping, the brake lamp lights up...

Re: Engine Shield

My car had it's original, unmolested pan on it when I bought the car. Later when I added an oil cooler, the sandwich adapter made the oil filter hang about 3/4" too low and kept the pan from fitting correctly. I cut a circle of metal out of the pan just larger than the diameter of the filter so the ...

Re: Odd transmission noise

I had a similar noise.....at 1st I thought it was the transmission, but it became louder over time to make it obvious it was coming from the back seat area. I got a new pumpkin from AutoRicambi and the noise disappeared. Had to be the best money I spent on the car all year as it was really making me...

Update Re: Loud Backfire and then Silence

So I finally got some time to investigate this further. I purchased a new Crane (Now called FAST) XR-3000 ignition module. Unplugged the old unit and installed this one, leaving the original units optical trigger installed inside the distributor. The car immediately fired right up. The original one ...

Re: Loud Backfire and then Silence

It's a 1600 motor in a 72 124. We had our floors sanded and refinished last week so I've not had time to work on it. The Best of France and Italy show is in LA in 2 weeks so I need to get this fixed if we're to make the ~700 mile round trip. Trouble is, I get some serious stink eye every time I stop...

Loud Backfire and then Silence

Cruising through a residential street last night my 124 experienced a loud backfire and just died. (Don’t think I’ve ever experienced a backfire before in that car.) I pulled the coil lead off the distributor cap, held it close to the cam tower and observed no spark while my wife cranked the motor. ...

Re: Coolant in Exhaust Port **NFC**

I did pull the valve cover as I initially thought the ticking was the result of a valve with excessive lash. During the valve clearance exercise I noticed the tiny breach of the exhaust manifold gasket. Nothing unusual to be seen there....... Watching it run with the cover off has sort of an "indust...

Coolant in Exhaust Port **NFC**

After a 400 mile R/T in my 1959 GMC, I noticed a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket. It's a 270 straight 6. (Other than the loud ticking noise, the trip was uneventful. Never overheated despite a constant 60mph.) I pulled the integrated manifold off and waited 2 weeks to get a replacement gasket. I...

Re: Old Mirafiori posts

Damn...... hearing those handles takes me back. I bet if someone combed through those early postings from the late 90's one could come up with an entertaining "Best of" collection. Actually, some could probably be called the "Worst of". Posts like this remind me how long this forum has been around a...

Before I jump in, I thought I'd ask first.....

Sometime in the process of replacing my rear diff, I must have hit the steel rear brake line just before it encounters the caliper hose. It's pinched closed. (Car stops straight but I thought it weird that that one wheel never had any brake dust on it.) Dunno if I nicked it while placing the jack or...
