Re: Dumb Newbie Questions

Thank you for all the replies. For what it's worth I don't have a facebook. I wouldn't post there if I could. I will certainly look at getting Brad's guide. I have the factory manual and it seems great for some things but lacking in others. Would it be safe to keep the car on jack stands on the engi...

Re: Roll Bars Y/N?

Based on the comments in this thread, the roll bar I have is more of a fashion statement than anything. It has some supports that run to the outer sides of the body, but none in the center of the bar as you guys mention. I don't think I will feel remorse when I take it out. I do see that using it to...

Dumb Newbie Questions

Where are the safe jack points on the 124 spider? Is along the rectangular channel behind the front wheel wells in the front safe? What about the back? Where do you check the transmission fluid? I noticed some wetness around the bottom of the tranny. I might be blind but I didn't see a dip stick oth...

Roll Bars Y/N?

Before I rip the roll bar out of my 75, I was wondering if anyone has any strong opinions not to. I certainly don't like the look and the way it blocks the rear view mirror. My head is also right at its height which makes me concerned with hitting it in a rear end situation. I'm not an aggressive dr...

Re: IDF dimensions

For those curious as how you might get a small/odd sized carb from a Chinese maker, the answer I would wager to guess is in shrinkage of the casting. Typically castings shrink I think around 10-15%. So in a 40 or 44 mm bore that's 1 - 1.5 mm, about what some of you saw in the cheap knock offs out th...

Re: Wheeler Dealers Fiat 124 spider

Thanks for sharing. Has anyone done a dash like that? I know there are the plastic covers, but maybe covering it would be an easier solution?

Re: Sticking Clutch Pedal

For what it's worth the winter project was supposed to be rear axles on my mercedes and front suspension work. Luckily Los Angeles doesn't really have the winter most places do, so they will just have to be finished when there is time.

Re: Sticking Clutch Pedal

I certainly seems like the issue is in the clutch somewhere. I think for the way the car drives now I will live with it for the time being. The clutch certainly works and there are more pressing items to take care of. My one thought, from the side of the car you can see the arm that the clutch cable...

Re: 1975 Spider Not Repeating Idle Speeds

Thanks guys. Mike, I will try what you're talking about next chance I get. The carb is pretty sorry looking, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the culprit, but I will report back. I hope the accelerator cable is less daunting than the clutch is. Brad, it a cable that attaches to a tuna can shaped...

1975 Spider Not Repeating Idle Speeds

I'm sorry but I have another issue with the 75 124 I have. After pressing the accelerator, when the RPMs come down they don't always return to the same idle speed. Sometimes it will be a little low, maybe around 400-500, but most times it comes back high around 1250 to 1500. If I pull up on the acce...
