Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

Ralph, Had Scorpions? If there is a next project for me, it would be a Monte Carlo (Scorpion). I have one or two located. I would resto-mod it with the 037 body panels for the quad headlight conversion, the double bubble roof, and round tail lights, front valence, Beta Grille, etc. A kind of 037 Str...

Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

Hmmm, some wise guys moved this thread to a new? category. I think it works well here. I will get to work on more. Interior first, then drivetrain later.

Re: Vintage Racer Build

If I could have, I would have, as a fit ending to a car that never served on the streets, but served well on the track. I took it to a place that takes scrap metal in a truly HUGE way. I pulled in, backed the trailer up to a very large crane/crawler, and watched them pick it up with an equally large...

Re: Vintage Racer Build

Say bye bye to the old chassis. I got everything off this one. It served well thru thick and thin for 50 years. Off to scrap. There was really nothing left to work with - it was truly scrap.

In it's heyday.

Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

Downward from the front notice the vented fiberglass hood, with Abarth rubber rear closures. Downward from the rear there is a relocated gas fill cap sourced from the 850 Sport Spider, and a Fiberglass rear deck lid, of which some examples had a rear badge in the normal spot, but most did not have a...

Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

As I indicated in an earlier reply, the main reason for the improvements to the 124 Abarth Rally, and Stradale front and rear suspension was to better compete in FIA Rally in both the tarmac and gravel stages, hence the improvements. This worked for the 124 Spider in Rally, and the same suspension d...

Re: Vintage Racer Build

John, Where is 'over here' ? The rod bearings for the Vintage engine were supplied by Pauter, the rod supplier, and a modified type to fit the chamfer requirements of the FIAT crank. There are many different bearing configurations of the chevy rod bearings (wide, narrow, etc.), but using these on cu...

Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

Carl, Nice X. Are there more pictures of this car? Yes, I suppose it is more than a black hood. Depends on how far you want to go with a tribute or replica. I was all-in. Andy, Backdating a '75 and newer was covered nicely by Randy Beeken. I am also doing the same thing on my Vintage build, and just...

Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

fiatrn, Thank you for the compliment. Curious to know, where did you see my car? I believe that in general, these special Spider models were meant for hard service, and customization to perform that hard service. Old rally cars are very hard to find, as they just got used up. If you consider that at...

Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

In south Texas, with a hardtop, you'd melt. Is your 'homage' project using the '75 chassis? Going to do a back date like Beek? Is it Spiderpoint in Germany? Or some other Vendor there? I would be hesitant to take a Pinin hardtop and modify it. Too few of them. How would that diminish the value of th...
