Re: Finally called I...workarounds not working...time for rebuild

Yeah, I pulled it, took off what I could, separated the block and head and dropped it with a mechanic who's been doing Fiats for like 50 years. I'll do the major reassembly, but he's doing the teardown and rebuild of all the internals, seals, everything. Thanks to everyone taking the time to respond...

Re: Finally called I...workarounds not working...time for rebuild

Check to see what oversize bearings are available for the crank main bearings and rod bearings, as well as the piston rings. This will determine if each of these parts can be used in the rebuild and what machining is required. Then let your mechanic and machine shop now. They will have to build to ...

So do you know if it's already been turned? Needs polishing or anything?

Re: Finally called I...workarounds not working...time for rebuild

Apparently I need a new crankshaft. The mechanic is saying it looks like it's been rebuilt and the crank was already turned and he doesn't trust it. Ok...so...where do I find a good one? He's looking with his contacts and I've been looking around on the vendors. Anyone got any leads?

Re: Finally called I...workarounds not working...time for rebuild

So that's basically what I did...took out motor, took off everything I could and was comfortable doing, separated head from block, and took it to Southside Fiat. He's going to hone the cylinders, do the pistons/rings, etc and have it timed. He's doing the work and letting me know what to order and s...

Re: Finally called I...workarounds not working...time for rebuild

If I'm going to have it done, I reckon I'll want to replace/repair everything that needs it. Don't want to have to do it again for at least another decade. As far as performance goes, I've already done all I intend to do...change out intake manifold/carb and desmogged. Other than that, I'm going for...
