Re: Italian police

When I was there in the late 90s, the Carabinieri drove Alfa Romeos and the regular police drove Fiats. I looked up the difference between the two on Wikipedia. It seems to be rather complicated and too much work for me to read but I think the Carabinieri have more responsibilities and duties over t...

Re: libertà

I have yet to sign up for a Facebook, Twitter or any other social media account. All I hang out on are car forums. But would that still be considered social media? For some reason I can't get past the idea that Facebook is a just place to air your dirty laundry or for people who are allot about them...

Re: 38mm rear calipers - maybe not my best idea

You know I can't say that I have ever recalled locking the brakes up on my Spider. No matter how hard I have stood on the brake pedal. I have locked all four wheels up on my 68 Ford which has manual 4 wheel drum brakes. But that's another story. After using the Gunson Easy Bleed system for 20 years,...

Re: Air auxiliary valve

The Spider and X1/9 AAV's were interchangeable. Similar units used in VW's of the period. Poke around the internet and you will find interchange and cleaning and adjusting discussions. Rattles are more difficult. Bosch licensed the L-Jet FI design to Hitachi so you may find some interchange on Japa...

Re: Selling lots of parts, need help with pricing

One item that is a must save is the door mechanism and anything inside the door for that matter. I went to shut the door one day on mine and it wouldn't latch. It think it a spring that had broke but I just pulled the mechanism out of an old rusty door and swapped the locks. I guess if push comes to...

Re: Fiat 124 versus MGB driving impressions (long)

I maybe one of the few that actually like the tubular bumpers on the 124 Spider and the rubber bumper MGB. Maybe not better than either chrome bumpered cars but I don't dislike them. I don't like the fact they had to jack up the suspension to raise the bumper height though. Especially on the 124 Spi...

Air auxiliary valve

This valve hasn't worked in years. In fact this valve came off an 81 X1/9 parts car because the one on my Spider had failed. Not the same Bosch number but seemed to do the job when it did work. This seems to be the part on an L-jet system to give up the ghost more than others. I have not done an ext...

Re: Spiders for anoraks

Throttle body heaters seem to be unique on the 80 models which are brass and use a tee in the upper heater hose going into the cylinder head.

Although I removed mine years ago because I don't see it to serving any real purpose and it's just something else to spring a coolant leak.

Fiat 124 versus MGB driving impressions (long)

You've probably heard me mention this but back in the early 90s I wanted a small convertible. Mazda just came out with the Miata but being a broke college student working for Winn Dixie, wouldn't allow me to purchased something like that until I found a real job. I looked around and settled on eithe...
