Re: WTH Spider Rear Racing Suspension!

yep, a pivot or swivel would work... a rubber bushing or something else that didn't have enough pivoting motion wouldn't ... that was my point... things break when anything binds

Re: Lowering Springs, Dog Tracking, Adjustable Panhard

I didn't say that having the panhard rod level was critical... simply that it works best when set level, as there is LEAST horizontal deflection of the rear axle when the panhard rod is level... if horizontal location of the axle was absolutely critical, you would loose the panhard rod and use some ...

Re: WTH Spider Rear Racing Suspension!

Looking at the pictures posted of the triangulation and it's attachment points another thing struck me, it wouldn't be legal for historics. certainly not in Australia, in it's current form. Rule book is pretty tight on the number of attachment points... by using the two ADDITIONAL mounts (PIVOT poin...

Re: Lowering Springs, Dog Tracking, Adjustable Panhard

You have all completely missed the point. Shortening the rear bar by 7mm between centres so there is no sideways deflection due to the 50mm drop in ride height is simply correcting one of the symptoms. The biggest problem(s) still exist(s), and the panhard rod is still NOT sitting level... Now you m...

Re: WTH Spider Rear Racing Suspension!

Yes it's wonderful... you could have a 131 abarth stradale or 124CSA experience with a technically quite correct replica, but minus the huge price tag... the "real" ones have simply become too collectable and valuable for us mere mortals to own, but if you are of "modest" means you can build a decen...

Re: WTH Spider Rear Racing Suspension!

Rear hubs look like X19 5 speed, steering drop arm is cast in, and there will be a connecting adjustable tie rod and this allows setting of rear toe. Basically a copy of the 131 Abarth rear suspension, with historic rally being good business these days, companies like RSD in the UK have developed th...

Re: Lowering Springs, Dog Tracking, Adjustable Panhard

If 50mm drop gives 1/4" of displacement, my eyeball estimates are 2x+ higher than this... 50mm drop will give a 7mm horizontal displacement at the DIFFERENTIAL CENTELINE ... this moves one tyre 7mm inwards, and the other tyre 7mm outwards... if you were to measure from the wheel arch relative to th...

Re: Lowering Springs, Dog Tracking, Adjustable Panhard

One or two people claim to have built watts linkages for the Spider.... it wouldn't be hard to fabricate given all you need is the center mounting point). Actually to make a watts linkage would require a complete new body mount on the LH side of the car, basically mirroring the mount on the RH side...
